Your tularecountyfirefighters along with @tularecofire have been working together to develop a peer support program designed to provide assistance to all members of the fire department in their time of need.
Mental health is often over looked in our profession and issues can be swept under the rug simply because it’s easier to look the other way than to seek help. Recognition and awareness are some of the keys to understanding when it may be time to talk to a professional. It’s been proven that lending an ear helps ease the stress caused by the things first responders see on the job. This support network is designed to keep us mentally strong so that we can continue to serve the citizens of our county on a daily basis.
Many departments are breaking away from the stigma that post traumatic stress is a sign of weakness. Many are learning that this is not true, but that it’s a sign that you are a human being. Recently we had a few of our members sit down with @drjanaps to discuss some of the basics of peer support and how it has helped them. (Link In Bio)
